Organic Cookies Straight from the Heartland

Clear Lake, IA – June 25, 2007 - Clear Lake Specialty Products, Inc. known for its Li’l Buddies Cookies and Fundraising Cookie Dough, happily announces the organic certification of its facility located in Clear Lake, IA! The award of Organic means that all of the ingredients included in the cookies are certified organic according to USDA standards, and the Clear Lake facility has been deemed a certified processor of organic products. Being awarded an organic certificate is a true milestone for Clear Lake and a great example of its continued commitment to create the highest quality baked goods for all to enjoy.

"We've been moving in this direction over the year and feel that it's a natural step to take especially when it comes to baking in the nutritional interest of children and families," says Tim Hartnett, General Manager of Clear Lake Specialty Products. "We hope to expand our customer base with all of our cookie products now being available in organic.

In order to be awarded organic certification, a processor must be verified by a USDA-accredited third party, a process that includes extensive, yearly inspections of the facility, detailed outlines of manufacturing processes, and continued verification of organic ingredients. Clear Lake Specialty Products was awarded their certificate by Iowa State University.

Organic standards, first regulated by the USDA in October 2002, help ensure consumer confidence in products that support sustainable farming, soil and water conservation, and environmental awareness. In fact, all foods labeled as organic are made from ingredients produced without conventional pesticides and synthetically produced fertilizers. In addition, these foods do not contain ingredients tainted with genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
